Places to go for brunch and lunch

Caffe 1901 Bistro

Located on St George’s Terrace in the leafy suburb of Jesmond in Newcastle upon Tyne, Caffe 1901 is a bistro with a relaxed atmosphere and a great spot for a spot of brunch or lunch or a coffee and a cake. It is a 5-minute walk from West Jesmond Metro station and on street parking is available.

We visited for a spot of lunch, and both chose a chicken and bacon club sandwich with a side order of paprika fries to share. Leanne’s order was easily adapted to gluten free and was served in toasted GF bread as opposed to my ciabatta. Most dishes are adaptable to gluten free, and the staff were helpful when ordering our food. The food was lovely, and we will be back for brunch very soon.

Pleased to meet you

Based on High Bridge in the City Centre, a short walk from Monument, Pleased to meet you has been on our list of places to visit for a long while. As it was Gavin’s birthday, we thought it would be a great place for a spot of lunch.

Even though it was a weekday it was surprisingly quiet when we visited, however we have to say the service was exceptional and very relaxed. We both ordered a chicken and bacon club sandwich, again Leanne’s was adapted to gluten free bread with ease. The portions were huge, and the chicken was cooked to perfection. As an extra bonus, the waiter surprised us with a brownie dessert, which was a nice touch for Gavin’s birthday. We loved it here and we will be back for Sunday lunch.

Meet me on the corner

We have been meaning to visit here for a little while after reading so many recommendations, so we thought it would be nice to combine a spot of brunch with a trip to the coast. Located on Ilfracombe Gardens in Whitley Bay, a five-minute walk to the coast and the High Street. We parked in our usual spot in Bournemouth Gardens car park.

We grabbed a table near the window, and both decided to opt for a breakfast sandwich, we both ordered a bacon and sausage sandwich which came with a side of potato bites. Leanne’s order was easily adapted to gluten free bread and as an extra bonus the sausage were also GF. We will be back to sample the lunch menu at some point, I am sure.

Bayberry Hollow

Situated in the village of Tanfield, on the outskirts of Stanley, 10 miles outside of Newcastle upon Tyne, Bayberry Hollow is a rustic café and gift shop based in the old village pub which dates to the 1600s, serving home cooked food it was the perfect spot for lunch on a rainy Sunday. There is a car park adjacent to the building and on street parking is also available.

I ordered corned beef pie with veg, homemade chips and gravy, whilst Leanne opted for the chicken and bacon club sandwich with homemade chips, Leanne’s sandwich was adapted to gluten free with ease. We can really recommend this place, really relaxed surroundings and the food is delicious.

Meat : Stack

Having walked past this place countless times on our way to town from the High-Level Bridge, we thought we would satisfy our burger cravings with a lunch time trip. Based in the Bigg Market, a five-to-ten-minute walk from both Central Station and Monument.

With its minimal branding, retro arcade machines and American nostalgia on display it is quite a cool spot for a bite to eat. We both ordered a cheeseburger with fries and Leanne’s was easily adapted to gluten free with ease.
