Sunday lunch

Sunday lunch

Woodmans Arms

Situated in Whickham, under ten miles from Newcastle City Centre, The Woodman’s Arms is a family friendly pub that serves meals everyday between 11:30am and 8:00pm (except Sunday when the kitchen closes at 6:30pm )

We booked in advance as their Sunday lunches are popular and are so glad that we did as the place was full.  They were able to adapt their roast options to gluten free with ease, by removing the Yorkshire pudding as expected and were clued up enough to let me know the pigs in blankets contained gluten.  Sunday lunches are served with roast potatoes, honey roast carrots and parsnip, carrot and swede mash, seasonal green vegetables and gravy.  Service was impeccable.  It was clear they have mastered their Sunday lunch experience, as our order was taken promptly and food followed quickly.  We definitely need to return to try their Main Menu.

Blackbird Inn

Based in Ponteland, on the outskirts of Newcastle upon Tyne, The Blackbird Inn is a historic castle dating back to the 14th century. Food is served between 12pm - 9pm Monday to Saturday and from 12pm - 5pm on a Sunday. Ample parking is available at the rear of the building, however please remember to validate your stay at the bar.

We booked our table in advance and were seated in the restaurant however meals were also available in the bar, both areas were busy. We opted for beef sirloin and chicken and they were able to adapt the meal to gluten free by removing the Yorkshire pudding. The food was served with a side of vegetables and we ordered some additional pigs in blankets. For dessert we ordered Eton mess and chocolate brownie served with mint ice cream. The food was delicious and the service was first class.
